Let me just start off by saying that mornings are really not my forte. I literally have a sign in my room that says, “Do not wake me, unless you have coffee”. However, mornings are inevitable, so I thought I would share the routine that I use to help make my mornings a little less stressful. Now keep in mind, I am a teacher, so I have two different routines. I have a summer routine and a school routine. Today I am going to share with you my summer routine.
During the summer, I try to make sure that I set my alarm clock for no later than 8 a.m. Now if I have to be honest, I should tell you that there are times that I can’t help but hit my snooze button a few times. HA! Once I’m up and moving I start by making my coffee. While my coffee is brewing, I get dressed, possibly do my make-up & hair, start a load of laundry, unload/reload the dishwasher, and make my breakfast. By the time I have all of my morning chores done, my coffee is ready and I can take a little time for myself.
I enjoy taking me, myself, and my coffee to find a quiet spot where I can read my favorite magazine, catch up on the next chapter in my book, or watch my favorite show. Sometimes I just enjoy sipping my coffee on the porch swing as begin to think about things I would like to get done for that day.
I have noticed over the last month, when I follow this routine and allow myself to get a few chores started before I do anything else, it helps me to enjoy my much needed quiet time a little more.
Taking time to just be still is crucial to reducing the stress that the day brings. I know that it is not always easy if your children are early risers or you are a working mom, but I encourage you to find time in your day to be still,so that you can recharge and be ready for any challenges that may come your way!
